Sample Itinerary - Culinary Journey to Seville

Culinary Journey to SevilleThis incredible hacienda is situated just outside of Seville, in the town of Utrera, surrounded by olive and palm trees, and vineyards. The hacienda is our home for the week, and we'll cook together in their Andalusian-style kitchen, taste local sherry and Spanish wines in the various patios, and relax by the pool. In addition to our hands-on classes, where we'll make my one of my favorite dishes called Fideus con Allioli (Garlic Pasta with Garlic Mayonnaise), and use herbs and lemons, pomegranates and azofaitos (a rare fruit tree of the south) from the kitchen garden, we'll go to one of the 5 designated regions where they cure Serrano ham, visit the famous sherry and wine vinegar producers, and explore all Seville has to offer: private tours and tastings with top sherry producers, learn how to Flamenco dance from the pros, go tapas hopping together, and taste wines from the famous Jerez region. Come share this unforgettable Spanish journey with me!

Day One

Our bus and my assistant will meet everyone in Seville in the late afternoon and transfer to the hacienda. Arrive at the hacienda to a grand welcome and a glass of cava, the local sparkling wine. Later we will enjoy a very special dinner prepared by Joanne and her assistants.

Day Two

First hands-on cooking class with Joanne at the hacienda. We'll have a traditional tapas starter of Sizzling Garlic Prawns with Hot Pepper and Amontillado Sherry with sparkling local rosado (rosé) wine. Tour the grounds of the estate after lunch and relax by the pool. Afternoon tasting of local olive oils, Andalusian cheeses, and mostachones from Utrera. Prepare a typical Spanish dinner together during afternoon cooking class at the hacienda.

Day Three

Morning cooking class, followed by lunch al fresco on one of the hacienda's patios. Afternoon tour of Seville, where we'll visit some of the famous ceramic studios, free time for shopping, then we'll meet an evening of tapas bar hopping in the heart of the city's tapas district of Santa Cruz.

Day Four

All-day excursion to Jerez de la Frontera for private tours and tastings at some of Spain's ancient bodegas (wineries) who produce the famous fortified sherry wine (and vinegars) named after the town. We'll have lunch in Jerez with local dishes accompanied by fine sherry wines. Free time to explore and shop in Jerez. Meet for some light tapas and wine, then we'll finish the evening with a Flamenco performance!

Day Five

Morning cooking class followed by lunch at the hacienda. Free time to explore Utrera and pack. Afternoon cooking class and dinner around the patio.

Day Six

Excursion to Huelva region to visit a private ranch and the most prestigious Iberico ham producer's facilities in Spain. We'll taste the famous jamon serrano - the "caviar" of dry-cured hams. We'll have picnic lunch at a vineyard on the way back to the hacienda where we'll enjoy the local jamon and Huelva wines made with Zalema, the indigenous white grape of the region. Celebration dinner at the hacienda.

Day Seven
